A 16-year-old footballer’s friends have paid their last respect to the dead by taking his casket to the soccer field, where he was allowed to score one last goal before his funeral.
Alexander Martínez Gómez was murdered by Mexican police last week, when he left his house with three friends to buy a soda.
Last Thursday, being June 11, he was buried after a funeral in the hamlet of Vicente Camalote on the pitch where he had honed his skills.
His teammates honoured him by helping him to score a final goal. A team-mate passed the ball toward Chander’s coffin and it deflected into the net.
The team of teenagers then piled onto the coffin and hugged it as the crowd cheered. After the applause died down, they remained there, sobbing.
