The Executive Governor of Lagos State, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has suspended the lockdown placed on the state because of the coronavirus pandemic. Sanwo-Olu did that in response to appeals by Christian and Muslim faithful to enable them carry out their spiritual responsibilities for the period of Easter.
The temporary lift of the ban will be from Friday through Sunday, this week. The Governor has hereby given the directive that Lagosians should be allowed movement between the hours of 8 am-to-4 am on Friday to enable residents of the state to shop for Easter celebration.
It was reported that Chairman of the Lagos State Chapter of the Cherubim & Seraphim Unification Church of Nigeria, Snr. Supt. Apostle Joseph Olatunde Adagba, recently made a call to the Lagos State Government to relax the lockdown directive ahead of the Easter Celebration as a means of God plans to cleanse the land from all forms of illnesses including the ravaging Coronavirus.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government on Tuesday declared Friday, April 10 and Monday, April 13 as public holidays in Nigeria to celebrate this year’s Easter.
This new development seemed inappropriate to some citizens as they questioned if the virus will also be on break in spreading.
The likes of Banky W has questioned state governors who have lifted the ban on public gatherings in their states to celebrate the Easter holiday this weekend. Banky W is wondering if the ravaging virus will go on holiday too to celebrate Easter.
Taking to his twitter handle to react, Banky W wrote: so for the State Governments that have suspended isolation & social distancing for Easter… do they have an agreement with the Corona virus that it will also go on Easter break as well? These our “leaders” sha. Kai.” he wrote”
In another setting, OAP Dotun, has also kicked against the partial relaxation of the lockdown order by some state governors for Christians to celebrate the Easter holiday this weekend.
Reacting via his Twitter handle, Dotun wrote
”Even in Israel that we know are Jesus’s guy guy are doing Passover in their houses… Nigeria, we just no get sense. You are opening churches and mosques. For what? Is Jesus complaining? can’t you do Passover in your house.”
